The Honorable Deborah Geraldine Bledsoe Ford

Deborah Geraldine Bledsoe Ford is a self-taught abstract colorist from Detroit, Michigan. Her artistic journey began at age six when she learned how to crochet from a neighbor. She visited the Detroit Institute of Arts in her childhood and became inspired to paint with a palette knife after viewing a Van Gogh exhibition. She has accomplished many things in her lifetime, including being a lawyer, a judge, a batonist, and a certified florist. Because of her floristry venture, fellow artists encouraged Deborah to pursue the fine arts. She went on to take lessons from noted Detroit artists and began painting with the focus of using the palette knife. In her “Color Scapes,” she aims to evoke joy, express various topics such as climate change and racial equality, capture personal moments such as her daughter’s college graduation, and more.
